This amazing new gadget enables the bassoon to make a much fuller and cleaner sounding middle A. It does this by closing the crook key automatically when the A speaker key is pressed.

The additional keywork is very easy to add to your bassoon just screw it onto the bassoon's crook key rod (see pictures for the placement) - there is no need to pay for an bassoon technician to fit this additional key. This key fits keywork that is no more than 4mm in diameter - the additional key can be filed to make it fit larger keywork.

Once you've attached it, you don't need to do anything else apart from enjoy the improved sound quality of this important note.

High a bridge - easily installed

It installed easily, and makes an immediate difference on high a and high b flat.

Works well as a trill key

Works well as a C#-D# trill, needing little setup and adjustment(it pretty much never slips out of position). However on my bassoon (a Mönnig - from after the merge with Adler) there is quite a high action on the whisper key and opening the A flick key doesn't come close to moving it enough to close to the whisper key. This is fine for my purposes as I was mainly interested in the trill function but worth considering.

Good but

Although the reed is just perfect, I would have thought the shipping would have been with a sort of holder to protect it, like for clarinet for exemple. But I am new to oboe, so I wont complain any further.

3-stars…it ain’t bad! (but it is big…)

I recently purchased the 6-bassoon/3-contrabassoon wooden reed case from Crook and Staple, and I have mixed feelings about it. First off, the case is a bit larger than I expected, but fortunately, it fits into my Pro-Tec Bassoon Case "ok" above the boot joint on the inner lid-protected storage.

One of the things I really love about this case is the ample room it provides for each reed. It’s great to have dedicated space for my reeds, ensuring they stay secure and protected. However, I did have to re-glue two of the bracing ends that hold down the contrabassoon and bassoon reed holder rods, which was a bit disappointing.

Overall, I’m happy with my purchase and would suggest it to other bassoonists. Just keep in mind that this reed case is larger than expected, so plan accordingly. Also, be aware that it doesn't have a latch; it closes with magnets, which means it could fall open if left loose in a bag.

In summary, I’m giving it 3 out of 5 stars, but I would still recommend it to fellow bassoonists!

I will get back to you after our rehearsal....should be interesting... hopefully with this reed i will be heard over the bagpiper whos playing ....beautifully made reed...

Adjustable oboe staples

Postage which was relatively expensive was due to arrive in 2-3 working days. It only arrived ye...

A little disappointed with music bag which was quite flimsy.

Favourite to date

I've been working my way round different reeds, having decided that you probably get what you pay for with oboe reeds. To date, this is the only one that I have repeatedly come back to as they seem to settle quickly and are good across the range. As always, some are better than others but still, I have found them more consistent than other brands. To put this in context, I am
nowhere near professional level, more Grade 8 level.

Medir cane

Always consistent shape and curvature, with a central line for folding accurately. The hardness does vary of course - this time one out of the five pieces was almost too hard to be useable - but the rest make good reeds with very little extra scraping. Package arrived promptly from Crook and Staple.

Not the one for me

I have had 2 of these reeds. They are both easy blowers for the low notes but not as good for the high (third octave F). Having said this, I don't have a third octave key on my oboe - maybe this particular reed needs that?
